thick as blood

So Matt and I traveled to our first appointment with HART ferility and were sent off to get a series of tests done. Mostly consisting of blood tests other than the seamen analysis that Matt has to complete. (lucky him)

Needles do not bother me in the terms of injections however, drawing blood from me is another story. God has blessed me with incredibly small veins and therefore, making it very difficult in the past for nurses to get blood from me. Well things did not change for this appointment either.

That morning I had to fast for 12 hours so I was starving from not eating at night or breakfast we headed to the lab. Matt got his blood work done and was ready to go in about 5 minutes. He has not probably giving blood and has given on a regular basis as a blood donor. I asked the nurse if I could lay down because with all the digging around that they have to do to find a vein for me I ususally hit the floor.

So I go ahead and lay down and the nurse comes in. I informed her I had small veins and often times the nurses had to use the "butterfly needles" which they use on infants. She informed me that everyone thinks their veins are small and began with the testing. Well she did not get to far because after two pricks and digging around for about 5 minutes she finally admitted I had small veins and called in the other nurse. At that moment I felt like saying "TOLD YOU SO!". But I didn't.

The other nurse came and right away took out the butterfly needles and with success on the first prick hit a vein. There I laid for a good 20 minutes pumping my hand with a squeeze ball, a hot press on my arm and the elastic tied as tight as it could for 12 viles of blood. To say in the least I was exhausted by the end and so thankful I had asked to lay down.

Little did I know this would be the start of several blood tests.

Now to wait to hear back about the results.
